Native of St. Petersburg (former Leningrad) A. Danilevsky started composing already as a conservatory student.

As his work was considered officially objectionable, he turned to Early Music and studied at the Scola Cantorum Basiliensis. He is now the artistic director of the Metz based Early Music Ensemble "SYNTAGMA", which is now building an international reputation with its recordings of unknown masterworks from Medieval to Baroque Eras.

Danilevsky resumed his compositional activities in 1995.
